About Country :

Welcome to Nepal, a Kingdom of high Himalayan mountains and deep valleys, lush jungles exotic wildlife, people of diverse origin and their own specific cultures. No wonder Nepal is known through so many names. The land of Everest, the highest mountain in the world, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the only Hindu Kingdom in the world and so on. But what attracts so many to Nepal is it's beauty and the simplicity of its people. Roughly rectangular in shape, the Kingdom of Nepal is a landlocked country that is situated between China in the north and India in the east, west and south. The land extends roughly 885 km east to west and 193 km north to south.

Altitude ranges from near sea level to 8,848 meters above it - the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest peak of the planet. This wild variation fosters an incredible variety of ecosystems: steamy jungles and terraced valleys, forested hills, frozen peaks and high altitude deserts. Tropical flowers frame views of not-so-distant snow peaks, tigers and rhinos wander around lush jungles while snow leopards patrol barren mountain slopes.

History :

The nation has always been an independent and sovereign country. The land was scattered into different small kingdoms and fiefdoms until unification in the late 18th century by King Prithivi Narayan of the Shah. Our current monarch, King Gyanendra is a direct descendant of Prithivi Narayan Shah. He stands as the symbol of national unity. The democratic constitution of the kingdom was promulgated in 1990.

Geography:

The land is about 147,000 sq. km in area, bordering on China to the north and India to the east, west and south. Measuring 885 km from east to west, and varying in breadth from 145 to 241 km north to south, Nepal offers an amazing range of travel attractions and adventure opportunities.

People:

The land has population of 21.7 million (as per the 2001 census), composed of a multitude of different ethnic groups and sub-groups, who speak over 70 languages and dialects. The two major religions, Hinduism and Buddhism, co-exist in peaceful harmony.
